What should I wear?

  • Comfortable athletic wear, tight enough to not be revealing but loose & stretchy enough to be easily moveable

What should I expect to feel during the session?

  • A feeling of being stretched, feeling relaxed & an overall feeling of good.
  • During the session, you should feel relaxed and I will be doing most of the work, but you are expected to be present and communicating throughout the session. If something feels painful, pinchy or just plain uncomfortable, please let me know and we will adjust.

What should I expect to feel after the session?

  • Initially you should feel really good. You want to maintain that feeling by staying hydrated! Some soreness is normal. Doing self stretches on your own time will help reduce that soreness.

How long will it take to feel improvement?

  • After the first session, you should feel and see improvement. To maintain that gain and further improve range of motion, it’s important to continue to get stretched or do self stretches at home.

Why is stretching important?

  • There are so many benefits to stretching – refer to the “benefits” page on the website!

What’s the difference between stretching and yoga or pilates?

  • Yoga aims to maintain posture, increase muscular strength and calm the mind.
  • Pilates utilizes a guided apparatus to help the body move through the core and maintain control and increase muscular strength and balance.
  • Stretching targets the fascial system – which is the connection system of your whole body. It connects everything and is everywhere. It covers and connects all organs and muscles. When you stretch the fascial system, you prepare your body for better, more functional, movement you can use in everyday life or in athletics. Breath is just as important for stretching as it is for yoga, Pilates and any exercise.

Should the stretching session be painful?

  • NO! There is absolutely no pain when stretching. You should feel a significant and good stretch but there should be no pain. The ideal stretch sensation should be at about a 5 or 6 on a scale of 10. We want the stretch feeling to be present in order to maximize the session.
  • If you are experiencing pain, please let your therapist know so they can reduce stretch or try different angles or stop stretching all together. There should also not be any radiating numbness or tingling down extremities – this is something to make your therapist aware of immediately.

Who can be stretched?

  • EVERYONE! Everyone who has a body! This does not just target someone who is a young, healthy athlete. Or an older person with stiff muscles. It targets people with fascial and muscular systems – which is every human.
